Van Mahotsav is celebrated every year at The Shri Ram School with great enthusiasm. Short stories, quizzes, presentations and assemblies conducted through the week leading up to Van Mahotsav highlighted the importance of trees. Inspired by the Bishnoi story and the Chipko Movement, they pledged to protect and nurture trees.
Representatives from each Form planted saplings of the ‘Raffia Palm’ along the boundary wall in the School field. They were accompanied by Paryavaran Club members. Mangal Bhaiya and Chandresh Bhaiya helped the students to prepare the soil. The compost that was added to the soil was prepared at school out of the food waste from the Lunch Hall.
Students also planted seeds of coriander, basil, parsley and pak choi to make a Herbal Garden in school. This reinforced their learning about our Herbal Heritage. On Van Mahotsav, 18th July, each student took either a Jade or Spider Plant home.
